I'm Josh.
I am a portrait based photographer that has an emphasis on creating art with my clients. Wither it's a dance session or a headshot, I love finding the artist within each person. No matter what your medium is, creating a beautiful family portrait, or promoting your business, we will find a way to introduce the artist in you.
From humble
beginnings.
I've been fascinated with taking photos my whole life. All my friends know me as the annoying person always taking pictures, this stems back to me in high school. My mom is really at fault, as an avid scrapbooker I have fond memories of looking through each finished book.
But I had a passion for dance and that took the spotlight. I had a professional dance career in Portland, OR. As a concert dancer I was very comfortable with finding the light. You want the audience to see you! I toured all over the US and Europe, performed in museums, parks, and libraries, and was in a couple of music videos. How does this relate to photography? Well you did click on about me... So I'm painting a picture for you.
After an injury that sidelined me from the stage, I found a passion for teaching full time. I have taught dance for over 15 years. Enriching the next generation of dancers gives me purpose and it's something I still do to this day. Within teaching and performing, photoshoots have always been a constant. Artistic and promotional shoots as a professional dancer, headshots and posing students as a teacher. I have been on both sides of the camera all my life.
When I picked up my first camera, a humble Nikon D350, I felt a new chapter begin as an artist in a different medium. I realized pretty quickly that doing a photo session with someone came natural because of my unique skill set as a dancer, director, and teacher. Organizing a concept, location, posing people for photos, it all was very similar to how I would create a production.
Creating a community.
Photography brings us together, it creates a bond between myself and my client(s) and then ripples into the lives of our community. You might never know a photo you post or send could bring a smile every time it's seen. Invoke a memory. A split second turns into a timeless classic that is forever cherished. I realize the privilege of my job and carry this honor with gratitude.
After every session I get a similar reaction as I am walking back to the cars or packing up in the studio... "That was way more fun than I expected!" And that is exactly what I love to hear. Photo sessions should be fun! Not a stressful task you need to check off of a list. Our time together matters, as I value your entrustment of me with your special moments. I have chosen to make my clients a priority and welcome you to join in the process of creating with this 6 foot ginger man.
